Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry. The Epidemiology, Mathematics and Statistics group is involved in clinical trials and epidemiology and as such its work is essentially collaborative. Currently, the major areas of interest are cancers of the breast, uterine cervix, prostate and colorectum. In these areas there are activities encompassing prevention studies, screening studies, treatment comparisons, prognostic factors for survival, and aetiological studies of risk factors for developing the disease. Screening, early detection and disease prevention form a focus for much of this work. The analysis of data from these projects often requires the development of new mathematical and statistical techniques, and the group has an active interest in the development of new methodology.
