- The research aims to understand the role of genetic abnormalities in haematological malignancies. Using molecular cytogenetics methods and with samples from our large leukaemia cell bank, the group have looked at chromosomal translocations, events which result in gene fusion and expression of chimaeric proteins. Recent microarray work has demonstrated that chromosomal translocations have very highly correlated gene expression profiles, this has important implications for the diagnostics and therapeutics of acute leukaemia. Currently under development are bioinformatic approaches to integrate CGH array, SNP genotype array and gene expression array data which will be linked to the clinical information.
