A multiprofessional group of
researchers with backgrounds in psychiatry, psychology and
medicine working with the common aim of evaluating and optimising
the impact of psychosocial factors on the prevention, early
detection, care and survival of patients with cancer. The
group was established formally in 1997, though research into
these issues has been carried out by initial members of the
team before that time.
Core funding for the group is provided by Cancer Research
UK. Additional funding for individual research projects has
been provided by the National Health Service Research and
Development Cancer Programme, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan
Cancer Relief, the Guy's and St Thomas' Charitable Foundation
and Breast Cancer Campaign. In addition, the Group is involved
in important collaborations with other research and clinical
institutions. In particular we enjoy working closely with
Jane Maher and her team at the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Support
and Information Centre at Mount Vernon and also Ann Cull of
the Cancer Research UK Psychology Research Group in Edinburgh.
